About Lee Otterholt
Lee Otterholt, born in the USA of Norwegian-American parents, has lived and worked most of his life in Norway as a professional dancer, teacher, and choreographer. He founded the Center for International Folk Dance in Oslo; he was also professor of dance folklore at the Norwegian National College of Ballet and University College of Oslo.

Lee established folk dance and performing groups in Norway, taught at festivals and workshops throughout Europe, United States, and East Asia and was the author of folk dance and instructional manuals used in Norwegian schools. Lee was one of the choreographers for the Opening Ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games in Lillehammer.


 

Our Itinerary Map

Day 1: Saturday, June 14:
Depart on Icelandair from JFK airport in New York City.

Day 2: Sunday, June 15:
Arrive in Oslo. Lee Otterholt greets you with Norwegian flags flying. Transfer and welcome dinner. Overnight at the Hotel Rainbow Europa.

Day 3: Monday, June 16:
Morning sightseeing of Oslo included Vigeland Sculpture Park, Holmenkollen Ski Jump, and the Royal Palace. Drive to town of Drøbak where Lee lived before moving to the USA. He’ll give us guided tour. Evening dancing in Oslo.

Day 4: Tuesday, June 17:
Depart Oslo. Drive through scenic Telemark past mountains, farmlands and stave churches. Arrive at Karin Brennesvik’s house and dance center in Hovin. Dance instruction with Karin. Dinner and overnight in dance center.

Day 5: Wednesday, June 18:
Meet local folk artists and dance with local dance experts to live Hardingfele music.

Day 6: Thursday, June 19:
Leave Hovin and drive over snowy mountains to Rauland
folkemusikkakademi. Dance in the evening.

Day 7: Friday, June 20:
Leave Rauland Breathtaking ferry ride across Hardanger Fjord. Continue past gorges, rivers, and waterfalls. Arrive and register at the Hotel Bergen Brygge. Possibly meet and dance with local dancers.

Day 8: Saturday, June 21:
Sightseeing tour of Bergen including Hanseatic warehouses, and Viking Hall. Visit Troldhaugen, home of composer Edvard Grieg
.

Day 9: Sunday, June 22:
Drive to Voss along the Vosso River, one of the finest salmon rivers in Norway. Possible mountain hike. Program at Sigbjørn Osa Folk Music Center includes folk dance lecture, dance lessons and live music. Dinner and overnight: Hotel Park Vossevangen.

Day 10: Monday, June 23:
Drive to Aal. Two-hour fjord cruise! A photographer's
dream! Optional ride on Flaam Railway with incredible views. Or ride the bus through farm-dotted landscape to the village of Gol. Dinner and overnight at Eidsgaard Hotel in Gol.

Day 11: Tuesday, June 24:
Back to USA. Morning transferfrom Gol to Oslo Airport with stop at Hilde Otterholt’s parents house for brunch. Depart by Icelandair flight for New York.
