About
Lee
Otterholt
Lee Otterholt, born in the USA of Norwegian-American parents,
has lived and worked most of his life in Norway as a professional
dancer, teacher, and choreographer. He founded the Center for
International Folk Dance in Oslo; he was also professor of dance
folklore at the Norwegian National College of Ballet and University
College of Oslo.
Lee established
folk dance and performing groups in Norway, taught at festivals
and workshops throughout Europe, United States, and East Asia
and was the author of folk dance and instructional manuals
used in Norwegian schools. Lee was one of the choreographers
for the Opening Ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games in Lillehammer.

Day
1: Saturday, June 12:
Depart on Icelandair from JFK airport in New York
City.
Day
2: Sunday, June 13:
Arrive in Oslo. Lee Otterholt greets you with Norwegian
flags flying. Transfer to your hotel. Overnight at
Thon Hotel Europa.
Day
3: Monday, June 14:
Morning sightseeing of Oslo includes Vigeland Sculpture Park,
Holmenkollen Ski Jump, and the Royal Palace. Drive to town of Drøbak where Lee
lived before moving to the USA. He’ll give us a guided tour. Evening dancing in Oslo. |
Day
4-5: Tuesday-Wednesday, June 15-16:
Depart Oslo. Drive through scenic Telemark past
mountains, farmlands, and stave churches. Arrive at Karin Brennesvik’s house and
dance center in Hovin. Dance instruction with Karin. Meet local folk artists and dance
with local dance experts to live Hardingfele music. Dinners and overnights in dance
center.
Day
6: Thursday, June 17: Leave Hovin and drive over snowy mountains to Rauland
folkemusikkakademi. Dance in the evening.
Day
7: Friday, June 18:
Leave Rauland. Breathtaking ferry ride across Hardanger Fjord.
A photographer's dream! Arrive at the Hotel Bergen Brygge. Meet and dance with
local dancers.
Day
8: Saturday, June 19:
Sightseeing tour of Bergen including Hanseatic warehouses and
Viking Hall. Visit Troldhaugen, home of composer Edvard Grieg. Drive to Voss
along the Vosso River, one of the finest salmon rivers in Norway.
Day
9: Sunday, June 20:
Visit to the Old Bull Acadami (Norwegian folk music center), and
an optional Flåm railway trip up the mountain with incredible views of gorges,
rivers, and waterfalls. Overnight at historic Fretheim Hotel in Flåm.

10: Monday, June 21:
Drive over mountains through spectacular and historic landscape to
Lee’s wife’s family cottage on Tyrifjorden. Eat, drink, and celebrate Midsummer in
traditional fashion with a huge bonfire.
Day
11: Tuesday, June 22:
Morning transfer to Oslo Airport for your Icelandair flight to New
York.
