Books by Jim Gold
For adventurous minds and hungry hearts
Carlos the Cloud
Jim Gold excels as a writer in the joys of improbability. His stories seize upon the most unlikely of heroes and heroines, and plunge them into situations none of us could ever imagine. They come to us with a hilarious assortment of odd backgrounds, very strange attitudes, and utterly surprising needs and ambitions.
Some of them are people. Some are animals, and others plants. There are guys and gals who worry about their sex lives or their deaths, a talking turnip, a cloud with Oedipal problems, a whole world of vivid creations. And they’re all inescapable, irresistible–a tangle of living neurons and flesh we can’t help but be drawn to because they so often, and so surprisingly, remind us of ourselves. These invented souls hint of our own needs, our own frailties. . .and our own triumphs. They will leave you a happier soul.
Reviews
Hi Jim,
I just began “Carlos the Cloud” and it strikes me that the stories are like medicine.
Should anyone come to you with a complaint, you could prescribe one story a day for so-and-so many days. Or two stories a day, one with breakfast and one before bed.
You have 52 stories, so the prescription will last for a while!
And if someone needs a refill, you’ll just have to write another collection of stories!

Amazon Review:
If you haven’t read Jim Gold’s book,”Carlos the Cloud”, you might think by it’s title that it is a children’s book. And if you read the first story quickly, you might still think it’s a children’s book. After all, the characters are all things you might think up if you’re writing for children, (or maybe he’s just high!) Even when the characters are human, the stories are off the wall. But if you read each story, you start to realize that Jim has a hidden motive. His philosophy shows in almost every story. You start to realize that the characters, be they non-human or human, are usually figuring out how to get ahead, to use their brain, to search for goals, to face the world, to better themselves in some way. He alludes to relationships with parents, teachers, and friends. His names for people and characters are outlandish, but often to the point.
The stories are done with crazy humor, yet use Jim’s hobbies to discuss folk dancing, Eastern European countries, Greek philosophy, yoga, running. A real conversation with Jim is often as silly as these stories, yet show his well-read background, often coming up with a thought, or a solution to your personal life. He has an amazing “happy” philosophy(and is always happy himself.) This shows in his characters. Knowing him is a pleasure, reading his books, especially these very short stories, ads to your wonder of his prolific mind.

Thought I’d let you know, that I had your book, Mad Shoes, tucked away on a shelf, since we went to Bulgaria, about 3 or 4 years ago. It’s at my cabin in NC and I have no TV here, by choice. Anyway, I picked up your book late one night (about 10:30pm) when I couldn’t sleep. Guess what? I was up all night reading it, as I just couldn’t put it down. What a fantabulous story line. Finally I dozed off about 7:15AM and had to wait until the next day to finish it. I thoroughly enjoyed it all and the final chapters in Bulgaria brought back a lot of fond trip memories that we had there.
Fondly,
