Day 6: June 19, Monday: OBERAMMERGAU – SALZBURG
Leaving Oberammergau we travel through the scenic foothills of the Alps towards Austria and upon arrival in Salzburg we have a walking tour. The city is famous for being the birthplace of Wolfganag Amadeus Mozart but also for being the seat of the Archbishops for many centuries. Through the salt trade ( “Salz” means salt, “burg” means castle ) the Catholic church had lots of money to build numerous churches in town and the steeples at the foot of the fortress are a testimony to that. A bit of free time to stroll through the scenic Getreidegasse and then we check in and enjoy an evening of music and songs during dinner, as we are being entertained by songs from the Sound of Music.
Day 7: June 20, Tuesday: SALZBURG – INNSBRUCK AREA
East of the city lies the lake district with picturesque lakes and we will make a couple of stops at Lake Fuschl and Lake Wolfgang before traveling up to a peak west of the city: Eagle’s Nest, with great views but also made famous in World War II, when Nazi Germany created the Alpine fortress at the foot of the mountain. Afterwards we travel to the nearby province of Tyrol and after checking into our hotel we enjoy an Alpine Folklore evening with music and songs.

Day 8: June 21, Wednesday: INNSBRUCK AREA
We start with a walking tour of the capital of Tyrol. The historic centre around the Golden Roof invites to dive into history and the surround mountains frame Innsbruck and give it a very special atmosphere. We take the Gondola up the local mountain and enjoy amazing views of the province which is famous for winter sports and Alpine activities. We then will meet with a local Folk Dance group to learn about the local folklore culture.
Day 9: June 22, Thursday: INNSBRUCK AREA
Another great day in the Alps as we visit the Swarovski Crystal World. The largest private company of Austria is famous for its crystal jewelry. The Crystal World is housed in a unique building half under ground and the special creations inside will bring a new meaning to the word “sparkling”. Castle Ambras with its medieval exhibits is also on the agenda and we will also drop by a local producer of folk costumes and have another event with a local Folk Dance group.
Day 10: June 23, Friday: INNSBRUCK – LIECHTENSTEIN – CENTRAL SWITZERLAND
We head west across the Arlberg mountain which brings us to Vorarlberg, Austria’s most western province and we stop for lunch in the principality of Liechtenstein (one of the world’s smallest countries). Then it is on to Switzerland, a country synonymous with mountains. We are going to enjoy the special Yodel Festival and learn all about this unique art of singing, typical for the Alpine regions of the country.

Day 11: June 24, Saturday: CENTRAL SWITZERLAND
We will take part in the events around the Festival, enjoy the competitions, the Alphorn blowers, the flag throwers, all presenting their unique skills along with the yodeling performances. A real chance to mingle with the locals, admire the typical costumes and we will also tour some of the local villages. The final location for the festival will be chosen 1 year in advance, then we will arrange our sightseeing program accordingly. A swiss cheese fondue will most likely be part of our culinary experience.
Day 12 : June 25, Sunday: CENTRAL SWITZERLAND
This morning we had to the comercial capital of the country: Zurich. A city tour will introduce us to the city located along Lake Zurich. Cultural highlights like the Opera and the Grossmuenster Church are an interesting contrast to the banking scene of the city. Enjoy a stroll down Bahnhofstrasse, Europe’s most expensive shopping and retail
street. At the end of the day we enjoy dinner with many new friends from a wonderful trip.
