From Bronx Violinist
to Bulgarian Folk Dancer
THIS BOOK IS A GAS—a carbonated novel whose bubbly mirth and flagrant lunacies mask a deeper aim. Will Sylvan Woods, it asks, ever manage to shed his callow cynicism and become a fully realized innocent? He is, to be sure, the least likely of heroes, and the road before him is murky and perilous. Demons await him at every turn. He will be tempted by money, fame, common sense, even by truth. Will he transcend them? You’ll have to read Mad Shoes to learn the answer.

Mad Shoes Review
Hi Jim,
Thought I’d let you know, that I had your book, Mad Shoes, tucked away on a shelf, since we went to Bulgaria, about 3 or 4 years ago. It’s at my cabin in NC and I have no TV here, by choice. Anyway, I picked up your book late one night (about 10:30pm) when I couldn’t sleep. Guess what? I was up all night reading it, as I just couldn’t put it down. What a fantabulous story line. Finally I dozed off about 7:15AM and had to wait until the next day to finish it. I thoroughly enjoyed it all and the final chapters in Bulgaria brought back a lot of fond trip memories that we had there.
Fondly,
Maryann Zeliznak
